Documentation and Help on common BrandMeister USA configurations of hotspots and repeaters.


# Operating Etiquette

General Guidelines in operating on the BrandMeister Network

BrandMeister is a worldwide platform allowing Repeaters, Hotspots and other applications to centrally connect and communicate in real-time for amateur radio operators.

These are some general tips/guidance on how to navigate and operate on the network.&#x20;

1. **Be courteous and respectful** to fellow amateur radio operators while communication on the network.<br>
2. **Be mindful of your language** and know there can be many ears listening, even young ones.<br>
3. **Listen and Pause**... allow space between your conversations to allow others to join into the conversation and to allow hotspots or repeaters to disconnect from a talk group. A good practice is between 2 and 5 seconds. <br>
4. **Minimize highly charged conversations** such as politics and religions. Some talk groups might be more open to politics and religions but would recommend listening and practicing common sense when talking about highly charged topics. <br>
5. **Move to a TAC or Local Talk Group** when using a busy or high profile talk group. Be mindful of your communication time and suggest to move to a TAC or Local talk group if the conversation is going to go long. <br>
6. **Be Mindful of the Talk Group Label** as this will suggest the topic or region it was designated for. Some are meant to be used for a region and when outside stations utilize the talk group be mindful and respective of its usage and time. For example , there should be no instances of two or more outside stations use a talk group designated for another region.<br>
7. **Statewide Talk Groups** generally in the USA are meant to be calling channels and or short conversations and should move to a local TAC channel when possible. Generally a 10 minute rule exists before some monitoring might join your conversation to politely ask you to move to another talk group. Be mindful these statewide talk groups might be set static on a large number of repeaters statewide. Nets are acceptable on state wide talk groups.&#x20;


# Access Denied Message

If hearing the message "Access Denied" this means Air Security Enabled.

### What is Air Security

Air Security when enabled in your selfcare dashboard prohibits any user from using your DMR ID on the network without using a Authentication method using a authenticator application.&#x20;

When a user tries to use your DMR ID when air security is enabled without authorization you will receive a message "Access Denied".&#x20;

### To Enable/Disable Air Security

1. Log into your account at <https://brandmeister.network><br>
2. Click on Self Care Link on the left navigation.<br>
3. Click on the Radio ID (if you have more than one) to edit.<br>
4. Click on the AirSecurity / TOTP radio button to enable or disable.<br>

# User Blocked Message

If hearing the message "User Blocked" this means you have activated the loop prevention.

### What is Loop Prevention

The loop prevention will block an user radio ID for a period of 1 hour on the master the hotspot is connected to after it has been triggered. This is to prevent two or more hotspots that have been configured to be on the same Frequency, Color Code and are in proximity of each other.&#x20;

### What Triggers Loop Prevention

The Loop Prevention will trigger and block the radio ID for a period of 1 hour if it sees the following:

* User keys up for less than 2 seconds
* and user keys more than 5 times
* and the key ups are within a 60 second period.

### I am Blocked, What Can I do to get un-blocked?

You have two options for how to resume using your hotspot.

* **Option 1:** You may connect  your hotspot to another BrandMeister server.<br>
* **Option 2:** Wait 60 minutes for the master server to automatically unblock your radio ID.

### What Can I do to prevent this from happening in the future?

To prevent this refer to "What Triggers Loop Prevention" above  and keep mindful of how you are interacting with the system.


# Talkgroup Block Message

If hearing the message "Talkgroup Blocked" this means the talk group is blocked.

If you here a Talk Group Blocked message this could mean possibly one of the reasons below.

* If accessing a Repeater and receiving this message this most likely means the Repeater owner has asked to block a specific talk group on the repeater from being used. &#x20;
* If using a hotspot this most likely means the server admin has blocked the specific user(s), hotspot or class of users from accessing the talk group.&#x20;
* If using a Terminal based system, this most likely means the user did not subscribe or unsubscribed from the talk group before transmitting. The other reason can be the server admin has blocked the specific user(s) or class of users from accessing the talk group.


# TAC Channels

Non-Primary channels aiding in  relieving congestion on primary/statewide talk groups. Temporary Channels to continue conversations.

TAC 310-319 are not allowed to be set as static on any of the USA Master Servers. \

The TAC channels are for those wishing to continue a conversation from another talk group. AKA, No parking Hotspots/Repeaters on 310-319 Talk Groups. \
\
TAC Channels are not to be used for initiating contacts.\
\
TAC Channels are not to be used for NETS.&#x20;

## What is a TAC Channel

A TAC or Tactical or Talk Around Channel is a virtual talk group which allows for a talk group for users to move to once they establish a call on a State-wide, Global (like 91) or other large area/or high profile talk groups to continue their conversations. &#x20;

TACS were designed for a temporary usage and not for users to utilize them for a daily channel for groups of users to meet on. See [Alterative to TAC Channels](/operating/tac-channels#alternative-to-tac-channels) for another option for a group of users to utilize daily.&#x20;

### TAC 310-312

TAC 310, 311, and 312 are special talk groups which are a common bridge between BrandMeister and CBridge networks. Please be considerate in their use as these are designed to allow cross communication between the two networks. These are not to be used as a calling channel or for users to park their hotspots on. Again these are a place to allow continued conversations from a larger or high profile talk group to move from.&#x20;

### TAC 313-319

These are BrandMeister only TAC groups and are not bridged to any other network and never will be. These are specific for users of BrandMeister. Please again refrain from using these as calling channels but for usage when calling on talk groups like 91,93, 3100, etc to move to to continue a lengthy conversation. This allows the high profile/high usage talk groups to be free for others to access and call others for a chat.&#x20;

### Alternative to TAC Channels

If all TAC Channels are busy or looking for a channel for a small group to communicate on a regular basis,  you may use one of your 7-digit Radio IDs (assigned to you or one of the members in your group) as a talk group. No Approval is needed and can use them immediately. &#x20;

#### Steps to begin using your ID 7-digit ID as  a Talk Group:

1. Program your radio by added the 7-Digit Radio ID as a Group Call using the CPS (Customer Programming Software) Program.
2. Label it as you see fit in the CPS as this will show on your radio Display.
3. Provide the 7-Digit to others in your group to program into their respective radios.&#x20;
4. Finally key up and test it out.&#x20;

#### Please do not pick a random talk group to use. It must either be listed in the BrandMeister Talk Group list or use your 7-digit Radio ID or if you have a repeater your 6-digit repeater id.&#x20;


# Talk Group 3100

Talk group 3100 is the main talk group for the United States Amateur Radio Operators on BrandMeister.

The intent of this talk group is a place for **USA Based Amateur Radio Operators** to have a channel to call to other USA based stations, ask questions, have general conversations and of course use as a calling channel to find other hams to communicate with.

This talk group is bridged with several CBridge systems in the USA. This talk group is fairly popular and is carried by a large number of repeaters and a large number of hotspot users.&#x20;

All Amateur Radio Stations are welcome to talk on this channel. **We ask non-USA based Stations** when making a call and have established communication with a station to please move to a TAC or another talk, specially when it is another non-USA based station. This will free up the talk group to allow other USA based stations to make a call.&#x20;

**This channel is a DMR only mode talk group.** Bridges to other modes are not permitted. This also includes any devices (hotspots, repeaters, etc.) which are not DMR Based are not permitted.&#x20;


# Talk Group 31000

Talk Group 31000 - USA Emcomm is for those wishing to talk about Emcomm Related Topics/Issues which may include Weather Related, Emcomm Communications.

The intent of USA Emcomm 31000 is a place for **USA Based Amateur Radio Operators** to have a channel to talk about topics related to Emergency Communications. This can include Emcomm Topics, Weather Topics (SkyWarn,Spotter, General Weather), and possibly for coordination of national major events if needed by putting in a support ticket for review/approval.&#x20;

Non-USA Based stations are asked to yield to USA Based Stations and if conversations are going to be long between non-USA Based stations, please move your conversation to a TAC Channel or another Talk group.&#x20;

**This talk group is DMR Only available on BrandMeister**.  No requests for any other modes or bridges will be granted at this time.&#x20;


# Statewide Talk Groups

Statewide calling channel for DMR Users in the state. Statewide are 4-digit talk groups.

### What is a Statewide Talk Group

Statewide talk groups are channels for **calling and short communications**. Statewide talk groups are typically set static on a numerous repeaters through out their respective states. Generally a long conversation is considered 10 minutes or more and should be moved to another talk group.  Please be considerate in utilizing these channels as they are keying up dozens of repeaters in the state.&#x20;

### Operating Procedures

* [ ] It is OK to make a call and hold a short conversation (Less than 10 minutes)
* [ ] If your conversation is going **more than 10 minutes, move to a TAC Channel** or other Talk Group.
* [ ] **NETS are allowed** to be held on statewide talk groups (if organized with the respective state coordinators/group of the channel)
* [ ] **Pause in-between conversations** to allow others to jump in and or to make a quick call.&#x20;
* [ ] **Statewide Channels is a DMR only mode talk groups.** Bridges to other modes are not generally permitted. This also includes any devices (hotspots, repeaters, etc.) which are not DMR Based are not permitted.&#x20;
* [ ] If **communicating with a station which is not in the state** please be considerate and move to a TAC channel or keep the conversation short. Statewide channels are meant for users in the state to use.&#x20;


# Connecting Hotspots

General steps on connecting RF based hotspots to BrandMeister Servers.

### Steps to connecting a hotspot to BrandMeister

The following is the general steps to connecting a hotspot (MMDVM Host, Pi-Star, OpenSpot, DVMega) to BrandMeister. For specific settings/configurations please visit the corresponding information as noted in red with links to the individual articles.

1. **Have a 7-digit Radio ID assigned** to you and your call sign. See <http://radioID.net> to setup a radio ID.<br>
2. **Setup your BrandMeister Dashboard Account** by registering at <http://brandmeister.network> and clicking on Register at the top right. See [Register for an Account](/dashboard/register-for-an-account)<br>
3. **Set your Hotspot Security password** for the Radio ID you will use on your hotspot in BrandMeister SelfCare. See [HotSpot Security](/dashboard/hotspot-security)<br>
4. **Configure your Hotspot** by selecting the master, entering in your hotspot password. See the specific hotspot connection information ([Pi-Star](/hotspots/connecting-hotspots/pi-star-mmdvm), [OpenSpot](/hotspots/connecting-hotspots/openspot-shark-rf), [BlueDV](/hotspots/connecting-hotspots/bluedv-megadv))<br>
5. **Configure your DMR Radio** to communicate with the hotspot. Generally, Radio and Hotspots need to be set to the same frequency, color code and talk groups setup you wish to communicate on using the CPS and uploading it into the radio.&#x20;

As of March 2021, all users are required to set a HotSpot Security Password when connecting hotspots worldwide. USA Master servers have been required since December 2020.&#x20;

# Pi-Star (MMDVM)

General instructions on how to setup a RF Based MMDVM Hotspot using Pi-Star using MMDVMHost Mode to a BrandMeister Server. This is assuming a new hotspot being configured.

Please make sure you have updated and are on the latest version of Pi-Star software. By doing so will make it easier to provide support by both of the support teams (Pi-Star and Brandmeister).

#### Setup your Pi-Star Configuration

**1.)** Start by opening your preferred web browser and enter <http://pi-star.local> or <http://pi-star> or the IP address of the hotspot if you know it. You will be then presented with the following page (Dashboard). It is assumed you have already setup your Wi-Fi configurations and will not be discussed in this setup step by step you can refer to a helpful website for detailed setup - [Amateur Radio Notes: Pi-Star.](https://amateurradionotes.com/pi-star.htm)

Notice we indicate after each section/step to click on the "**Apply Changes"**. This is important to do as this will setup the Pi-Star software to allow for the next steps to be performed. Some will not display until a previous step/action is applied to the Pi-Star Software.

**2.)** Next click on ["Configuration"](http://pi-star.local/admin/configure.php) link at the top right of the dashboard. This will take you to the configuration options for the Pi-Star Software/Hotspot.

**3.)** In the Control Software section is where you can set the type of Controller Mode the hotspot will operate as, either simplex or duplex. Select the best choice related to the type of MMDVM board you are using and then click save if needing to change to Duplex as Simplex is the default setting or can skip clicking apply since it is defaulted to Simplex and move to the next step.

**4.)** Next we will need to enable the DMR Mode under the MMDVMHost Configuration section by click on the toggle switch next to DMR Mode. Click **"Apply Changes"** and wait for the Pi-Star software to restart and enable the option. Don't worry about the other options here. You are more than welcome to explore the other modes to enable but for this setup we will only focus on DMR and connecting to a BrandMeister Server.

**5.)** Next scroll down to the General Configuration section and enter in the following information below. The ones mentioned are those for recommended to ensure there is a value set.

* **Node Callsign:** - This is your Amateur Radio Call Sign. Only enter your call sign here.
* **CSS7/DMR ID:** - This is your 7-digit ID which was issued to you from RadioID.net. If you need to get one [click here on getting a 7-digit ID](http://radioid.net) from RadioID.net.
* **Radio Frequency:** Enter the simplex frequency here. If you have a duplex an additional box will be present to provide RX and TX frequencies (this is only shown if in duplex mode).
* **Latitude:** - You can leave this as is or enter your Latitude.
* **Longitude:** - You can leave this as is or enter your Longitude.
* **Town:** Enter your City/Town.
* **Country:** Enter Your Country
* **Radio/Modem Type:** Choose the modem you are using. Refer to the vendor/manufacture you obtained your device from.
* **Node Type:** Choose private if you are only using this hotspot yourself and not sharing with any other users. Your 7-digit ID you entered in the CSS7/DMR ID must match to the radio. If you have more than one 7-digit ID and want to allow access then choose Public.
* **DMR Access List:** If you selected Public in the Node Type then enter in the 7-digit Radio IDs you wish to be able to use your hotspot using a comma to separate each one. *For Example: 1234567, 2345678, 3456789.* If you have chosen Private than this box wont allow you enter and can leave it blank.
* **APRS Host Enable:** Leave this as default (off)
* **APRS Host:** Leave this as default (rotate.aprs2.net)
* **System Time Zone:** Select your time zone from the drop down.
* **Dashboard Language:** Choose your preferred language.

When completed make sure you click on **"Apply Changes"** so the changes are saved. This will take a few moments and will return you to the configuration page when done.

**6.)** Next scroll down to the DMR Configuration section and enter the following information.

* **DMR Master:** Select the BrandMeister Server of choice. In this example we will use BM 3103 United States.
* **BM Hotspot Security:** Enter your Hotspot Security Password you entered in on BrandMeister Selfcare for the Radio ID used for the hotspot. [Click here to setup a hotspot security password if you have not done so.](/dashboard/hotspot-security)
* **BrandMeister Network ESSID** (or might see DMR ESSID): This allows you to select an alias for the hotspot. For your first hotspot you can choose 01 or leave as none. If you plan to have more than one hotspot then you should select 01 or any number from 01 to 99. Each hotspot must have a unique ID and ESSIDs allow for this work properly on the network.
* **DMR Color Code:** Choose your desired Color Code for the hotspot.

Finally click on "**Apply Changes"** and wait for the Pi-Software to restart and enable the configurations.

You are probably asking why can't I use DMRGateway as an option? You are more than welcome to use it but take note BrandMeister Support team will not provide support for those who use DMRGateway as it can be complex and may have many options for configuration. We recommend referring to the [Pi-Star Support options ](/hotspots/connecting-hotspots/pi-star-mmdvm/pi-star-support-options)for a list of sources if you choose to use DMRGateway for support on configuration and other issues you may run into.

**7.)** Finally click on the [Dashboard](http://pi-star.local) Link at the top navigation of the hotspot to show the dashboard. Take notice on the left side indicators. If all has gone according to plan and followed the setups in this document you should see a Green DMR Net under the Network Status. It means you are ready to operate your hotspot with your DMR Radio.

If you see a **yellow DMR Net**, this indicates the hotspot is not connecting and can be one of many issues listed below:

* [ ] Your hotspot security password maybe incorrect. Check to make sure what you entered in the BM Selfcare and your hotspot are the same. If using a copy and paste you might have copied an extra character. Might try typing it in manually.
* [ ] Your hotspot password is to long or complex. Passwords should be 20 characters or less and avoid using special characters.
* [ ] You did not enable Hotspot Security and skipped that portion of the steps above. See [HotSpot Security](/dashboard/hotspot-security) on setting one up.
* [ ] GPS Information (Lat and Long) is not correct or in the correct format. Typically missing a decimal point. \\

If you see a **red DMR Net** it means some other configuration is not set properly.

* [ ] If using DMR Gateway make sure the "Brandmeister network Enable" is turned on under the DMR Configuration section.
* [ ] Check to make sure you are proper network connection.
* [ ] Recommend going back through these steps and or post your question to the [Pi-Star Forums](https://forum.pistar.uk/) for further support with Pi-Star or refer to [Amateur Radio Notes: Pi-Star](https://amateurradionotes.com/pi-star.htm) for a detailed documentation about Pi-Star.

**8.)** Congratulations on reaching this step, If you got a green DMR Net indicator you are done. You can now operate your hotspot on BrandMeister using your DMR Radio. Enjoy!

#### Setup your Pi-Star Configuration - Quick Version.

1.) Access the Pi-Star Dashboard - <http://pi-star.local> or IP

2.) Click on Configuration Tab (top right)

3.) Enter Password (Default is all lowercase: username: pi-star | password: raspberry)

4.) Under Control Software Section:

* select MMDVMHost
* select if you have a simplex or duplex hotpsot.
* Click **Apply Changes**. (The modem will reset after you click Apply Changes each time and this is normal).

5.) Under MMDVMHost Configuration:

* enable "DMR Mode" by click the toggle button.
* Click **Apply Changes.**

6.) Under General Configuration:

* enter Node Call Sign, DMR ID (only 7 digit here),
* the Frequency (for example 431.020),
* the Radio/Modem Type (choose your modem),
* and then System Time Zone for your location.
* Click **Apply Changes.**

7.) Under DMR Configuration:

* under DMR Master (first drop down) select the Master server you wish to connect to. (USA has the option of 3102 - Dallas, 3103 - San Jose or 3104 - Chicago)
* enter your BrandMeister hotspot Security Password (if you need to setup a hotspot security password or need to reset it see [Hotspot Security instructions](/dashboard/hotspot-security)),
* then under BrandMeister Network ESSID select the alias ID you wish to use (01 through 99) if first hotspot use 01.
* Click **Apply Changes.**

8.) Click on Dashboard on the top menu. This will take you to the main dashboard and notice on the left side under Network Status, DMR Net should be lit green if all went well.

# OpenSpot (Shark RF)

General instructions on how to setup a Shark RF Openspot (V 1, 2, 3 & 4) Hotspot using Homebrew Protocol.

#### Setup your OpenSpot 1 configuration

1.) Start by opening your preferred web browser and enter <http://openspot.local> or <http://openspot> or the IP address of the hotspot if you know it. The default password is *openspot*. Type this in and click the Login button.

2.) Click on the Connectors link on the opt of the navigation bar.

3.) In the Connectors Section, verify/change to "Homebrew/MMDVM and click the Switch to selected button.

4.) Scroll down to the DMR/Homebrew/MMDVM Section on the same page of the Connectors. Enter the following information.

* **Modem receive and transmit frequency** - Make sure both these fields have the same valid UHF amateur radio frequency entered. These two fields should be the same frequency for what ever is choosen.
* **Protocol** - Select Homebrew
* **Server** - Select the preferred BrandMeister Server. (Do not select 3101).
* **Callsign** - Enter your Amateur Radio Callsign.
* **DMR ID** - Enter your 7-Digit Radio ID and if preferred append two digits to this to create a unique ID if you are using more than one hotspot on the network. So if you have 1 hotspot you can use 01 or if this is a second one use 02 (7-digit Radio ID plus the two digit alias).
* **Server Password** - Enter the hotspot security password. If you need to set one or forgot the password please review the [Hotspot Security Guide](/dashboard/hotspot-security) for information.

5.) Click the Save Button. If all information was entered properly your hotspot should now be connected to BrandMeister. On the status page (click on the status menu link on the top navigation) will show under Status as standby. This means the connection has been established and is working and waiting for traffic.

6.) You are now connected and can start to communicate with fellow ham radio operators on BrandMeister.

# BlueDV (DVMega)

General instructions on how to connect the BlueDV Software to BrandMeister.

### Setup your BlueDV Configuration (Windows Desktop)

1.) Start by clicking on the BlueDV icon to start the desktop program on  your Windows based computer.&#x20;

2.) Before we begin the configuration make sure you have the latest DMR Masters database loaded by clicking on the Update Menu item and then Update DMR Masters link as shown below.&#x20;

3.) Next click on Menu item and then Setup Link to enter the setup/configurations section.&#x20;

4.) In the General Section enter  your Call Sign, Verify the frequency is a valid frequency in the UHF Amateur Radio Band and make sure there are valid Lat and Long Values, Default values should work just find but make sure there are values here.&#x20;

5.) In the DMR Section enter the following:

* **DMR ID Simple** - This is your 7-digit Radio ID
* **DMR ID hotspot** - This is your 7-digit Radio ID plus two digits to denote the alias ID. If this is your first hotspot then use 01 or if your second use 02, etc. This must be a 9 digit ID (7-digit Radio ID plus Alias two digit)
* **DMR Type** - Select BM for BrandMeister
* **DMR Master** - Select your preferred DMR Master to Connect to.&#x20;
* **Master Password** - This is your hotspot security password set in self care dashboard. If you need to create one for forgot what it is see [HotSpot Security guide](/dashboard/hotspot-security) to create/reset the password.&#x20;

6.) It is assumed you already have the AMBE settings set for your situation, If using ThumbDV or DVStick make sure that is selected in the AMBE Section. If using a DVMega Hotspot reference the documents for the DVMega which came with your device.

7.) Once you are done click the Save Button at the bottom left. This will take you back to the main screen.

8.) To start the connection click on the Serial Radio Button, wait for it to establish connection to your device and then click on the DMR Radio Button. If all configurations where entered properly you will see under the DMR Status area, Logged into DMR. Plus you will see on the main screen the server it is connected to as shown below. This is an example of a successful connection to BrandMeister.&#x20;

# API Manager

API Manager allows for hotspots supporting the BrandMeister API Manager to control actions via the local hotspot dashboard such as static talk groups, clearing of dynamic TGs, etc.

# Hotspot Connection Issues

A list of common issues users run across when connecting their pi-star devices (or other hotspots).

### **Common things to look for when seeing errors or not able to connect to a Master Server.**

* [ ] Make sure you are not using Master 3101 - This was decommissioned in 2021, choose any other USA Master Server.<br>
* [ ] Check the [Device Logs](/dashboard/device-logs) on the BrandMeister Dash for any errors being reported. <br>
* [ ] Verify you are entering your Hotspot Security Password Properly. (This is not the same password you log into BrandMeister selfcare.). See [Setting HotSpot Security](/dashboard/hotspot-security).<br>
* [ ] Verify your call sign and radio ID are registered and are entered correctly into the hotspot. Call Sign and Radio ID must match the Radio ID registration.  <br>
* [ ] If you recently changed your call sign, you will need to register for a new Brandmeister account. See [Call Sign Change](/dashboard/callsign-change).<br>
* [ ] If you recently made a change to your Radio ID on RadioID.net and have a 1xxxxxx ID, you will need to request for a new radio ID as 1xxxxx based IDs will not be updated or imported into Brandmeister. See [RadioID not Updating on BrandMeister](/dashboard/radio-id-information-not-updating).<br>
* [ ] Make sure your call sign is entered correctly. For those which have a Zero in your call make sure you typed a zero and not the letter O. And for those with a number 1 in your call make sure you typed a number 1 and not the letter L or I.<br>
* [ ] If you are using Pi-Star make sure you are running the latest version by performing an upgrade/update in your configuration. Visit the pi-star forums for steps on how to upgrade/update.<br>
* [ ] If you are using DMR Gateway would suggest to try connecting with DMR Host (using the first drop down and choosing a master server using pi-star based software).<br>
* [ ] If you insist on using DMR Gateway then make sure you have selected the BrandMeister Network Enable Radio Button. <br>
* [ ] If this is a simplex hotspot make sure you are using a simplex channel<br>
* [ ] If this is a duplex hotspot use different Receive and Transmit Frequencies.<br>
* [ ] If using Pi-Star software make sure all fields requiring information is entered correctly. Including the Longitude and Latitude as the correct information entered correctly. (is a missing a decimal, entered correct values, etc.).<br>
* [ ] If using Pi-Star software you may consider a fresh load (reinstall) of the software. Sometimes SD Cards get corrupt and or some sort of configuration is not saving/working and by refreshing the software may help to resolve any issues you may be experiencing. <br>
* [ ] **If using Pi-Star base product:** If none of the above resolved your issue please consult the pi-star forums or vendor of product purchased from for further assistance. # General Questions

Frequently Asked Questions related to Hot Spots connecting to BrandMeister.

### Is the Self Care Password the same as the Hotspot Security Password?

No, The hotspot security must be set in the Self Care Portal under the respective Radio ID (if you have multiple radio IDs and using them you will need to set them per each Radio ID in your profile).

### Will I need to have a unique password for each hotspot I have connected to BrandMeister?

You will set the hotspot security password for the Radio ID that is being used and then may use that same password on the multiple devices if using the same Radio ID for each one (plus the alias id if using multiple hotspots).

### Will I need to enter a password each time I start my hotspot?

No, once you set it in your hotspot it will save in your hotspot configurations (Pi-Star, BlueDV, OpenSpot, etc).

### How Can I remove a hotspot ID that is in my self-care dashboard?

IDs will be removed over time and won’t hurt being in your profile. You may ignore it or reuse it later if you choose. Please be patient as these are manually removed by the Dev Team.

### My Hotspot is showing disconnected what can I do?&#x20;

Make sure the hotspot security password you entered is entered the same into your hotspot password field. It is case sensitive. You may need to retype it manually or observe if you have accidently copied a space at the beginning or end of the password when you copied and pasted it.

### I have multiple Radio IDs and I use them on my hotspots, do I need to set a password for each Radio ID?&#x20;

Yes, you will need to set a password for each Radio ID you are using.

### Why are we being asked to set a hotspot security password? Are we being punished?&#x20;

The system was designed to provide security for users when using their Radio ID and this is one of the options we are now enabling to help users from having their Radio IDs used by other uses when using hotspots. Further this helps with users who do type in incorrect Radio IDs and may cause some interference with others including other hotspots and repeaters.

### Do I need to sign up somewhere to set my hotspot security?&#x20;

Yes, you will need to register for a Self-Care account. You can do so by going to Register | BrandMeister or by visiting the dashboard and clicking on the Register link at the top right of the website. When you register an email confirmation will be sent to you. Once you receive this and follow the instructions your account will be placed into a review status and a BM Team member will review and approve the account. Please be patient and allow upwards of 24 to 48 hours for review/approval. If you did not receive an email within an hour or two please check your spam filter/box and if still not found please contact the support team at <https://support.brandmeister.network/>

### I need step by step instructions on how to set hotspot security on self-care and or on my hotspot.&#x20;

You may find general setup instructions by going to our news portal where we posted this announcement at <https://news.brandmeister.network/configure-a-security-password-for-your-hotspots/> or [click this link](https://youtu.be/Eqrod3gaw_Y) to view a quick YouTube video on the step by steps.

### I set the hot spot security in self-care but do not see it in the text box field?&#x20;

This is normal for the password not to be displayed. If the Hot Spot Security is enabled the password is stored. If you forget or need to change the password, simply type in the new password and click save and update the password on your hotspot.

### Do I need to set a password if I am using Pi-Star for my Repeater?&#x20;

No, 6-digit MMDVM users will be set to the default password of passw0rd until the new dashboard is developed and released to allow repeater users to change passwords. 6-digit MMDMV repeaters should not have to do anything at this time. If you are using a 7-digit or 9-digit ID for your repeater you can set it in selfcare.

### Do I need to set a password for each master server I might connect to?&#x20;

No, once you set a password in selfcare it is set at a global level and will allow you to connect your hotspot to any master around the world.


# Connecting Repeaters

General steps on connecting RF Based Repeaters to BrandMeister.

### Steps to connecting a repeater to BrandMeister.

The following is the general steps to connecting a commercial based repeater currently Motorola and Hytera along with MMDVM based.  For specific settings/configurations please visit the corresponding information as noted in red with links to the individual articles.

1. **Setup your BrandMeister Dashboard account** by registering at <https://brandmeister.network> and click on the Register link at the top right of the page. If you already have a dashboard account you can skip to the next step. See [Register Article](/dashboard/register-for-an-account#register-for-an-account) for step by step information. <br>

2. **Have a 6-digit Radio ID assigned** to you or your club for the repeater you wish to connect. See <https://radioID.net> to setup a radio ID for a repeater.  <br>

3. **Verify on RadioID.net repeater ID status** **is set to On Air /Visible.** (if was set to off air it will take 5 to 10 minutes for the information to be sent to BrandMeister. [See Set On Air Status](/repeaters/set-on-air-radioid.net).<br>

4. **For MMDVM Based Repeaters** (Pi-star, MMDVMHost)&#x20;
   1. **Log into the Selfcare** Dashboard and click under My Devices and you will see your repeater ID Listed.&#x20;
   2. **Sysop Rights** - Whom ever the trustee was assigned on RadioID will have been automatically assigned sysop rights to the repeater.&#x20;
   3. **Set Device Password** - You will need to set a password for your repeater by entering it in for the selected repeater in the Device Password field. Click Save (it is normal after save to see the password field update as blank).  See [Device Password](/repeaters/sysop-dashboard/device-password)
   4. **Add Password to your Repeater** - Enter the Device password into your Pi-Star/MMDVM Host configuration and save.&#x20;
   5. **Radio Alias Name (Call) and 6-digit Radio ID must match** on the repeater of what was registered with RadioID. If these do not match the repeater will not be allowed to connect.&#x20;
   6. **Repeater Configuration** - If you need guidance on how to configure your repeater click on the link for detailed steps/information: [MMDVM Repeater](/repeaters/connecting-repeaters/mmdvm).

5. **For Motorola or Hytera Repeaters**&#x20;
   1. **Log into the Selfcare** Dashboard and click under My Devices and will see your repeater ID Listed.&#x20;
   2. **Sysop Rights** - Whom ever the trustee was assigned on RadioID will be automatically assigned sysop rights to the repeater.
   3. **Device Password** - For Motorola repeaters you will need to set it as a HEX Value and no more than 40 Hex Characters (A-F, 0-9 -- Example a0139bfac00 or 88800002929). Hytera Repeaters is not functional at this time in regard to the authentication key.  See Set [Device Password](/repeaters/sysop-dashboard/device-password)
   4. **Radio Alias Name (Call) and 6-digit Radio ID must match** on the repeater of what was registered with RadioID. If these do not match the repeater will not be allowed to connect.&#x20;

6. **Connect your repeater** to one of the preferred master servers. Your repeater should now be connected if you followed the steps above. <br>

# Hytera

General steps on connecting a Hytera Commercial DMR Repeater to BrandMeister Server

## Configuration Information

1.) Open Hytera CPS (Customer Programming Software).

2.) Open Common Section (folder) in CPS and navigate to Common | Setting and double clicking on it.&#x20;

3.) You will now see the Basic Screen as shown below. The screen may vary on version and model number of your repeater.&#x20;

* **Radio Alias**:  Enter Repeater Call Sign.&#x20;
  * Note: Please enter Call Sign first and then any text following if you wish to add more info such as location or name. You can use a Dash or space to separate the additional information -- Example:  *W1AW - City Name*    or     *W1AW-2*

4.) Navigate to the Conventional |  General Setting and then double click on Network.&#x20;

5.) Under the Basic Setting set your network configuration by either choosing DHCP or enter a static IP and DNS Information.&#x20;

6.) Next scroll down to the IP Connect Configuration. \

Enter the highlighted information for your repeater setup:‌

* **Repeater Type:** Select Slave
* **Jitter Buffer Length**: Enter a value of 8
* **Master UDP Port**: Enter a value of 50000
* **IP Connect Net. UDP Port**: Enter a value of 50000
* **Voice & Data Service**: Make sure this is Selected (check mark showing)
* **Voice & Data UPD Port**: Enter a value of 50001
* **RDAC Service:** Make sure this is Selected (check mark showing)
* **RDAC UDP Port:** Enter a value of 50002
* **Master Domain Name:** If using domain name select this (check mark showing). **Note** by using this make sure you have an available/relieable DNS Server at the site of the repeater otherwise the domain might not resolve to the IP address properly. If not sure,  uncheckd the box "Master Domain Name On/Off" and enter the IP Address of the master server.&#x20;
* **Domain Names:** Enter the domain of the master to connect to if using Domain Name for the master. See [List of Masters](https://app.gitbook.com/@w7xm/s/brandmeister-usa/~/drafts/-MbhhllPATJzqMzICe2F/repeaters/connecting-repeaters/hytera#list-of-master-servers)​

When completed click Close.

7.) Navigate to Conventional | Digital Comment Folder and double click on Basic.

8.) In the Basic Setting Screen enter your 6-digit Radio ID (Repeater ID). When completed click close.

9.) Navigate to the Conventional | Channel Folder and then Digital Channel. You should see at least one channel in this folder. Double click the channel. (The number of channels may vary depending on your situation).

10.) In the channel setup screen (Below) make sure you select under the Digital IP Multi-Site Connect select **Slot 1 & Slot 2** to enable the repeater to connect to the master server.  All other information is up to you to configure depending on your choices and frequency information. When done click close.&#x20;

11.) Navigate to Conventional | Zone and double click on Zone 1 or the zone you wish to place the channel. (A channel must exist in a zone in order for the repeater to select/use it).

12.) Verify in the Members section the channel you are using is in the members section on the right side. When done click close.&#x20;

13.) Navigate to Conventional | General Settings and double click on Setting.

14.) Scroll down to the Power On section and select the power on channel. This is important if you are using a mixed mode. But if only Digital mode select the Digital Channel which will be defaulted when powered on (you could also have multiple digital, analog channels depending on your situation).  Click close when completed.&#x20;

15.) Navigate to Conventional | General Setting and double click on Accessories.

16.) Scroll down to the Priority control section and set the following as shown below.&#x20;

* **Path Priority:**                          Set to Repeat Request.
* **Repeat Request Priority:**       Set this to IP Connect Repeating.

17.) Navigate to  Conventional | General Setting and double click CWID.

18.) Enter your Call sign and verify the TX Interval is at 10 Minutes.

19.) Write the code plug to your repeater. Your repeater should now connect to the master server.

20.) Verify connection by going to the BrandMeister website at [http://brandmeister.network](https://brandmeister.network/?page=repeaters) and click on repeaters and search for your repeater by the 6-digit Radio ID or by the Callsign of the Repeater.&#x20;

21.) Once all steps are satisfied above you can request for sysop rights to be assigned in the BrandMeister Sysop Dashboard by submitting a ticket by visiting [http://support.brandmeister.network](https://support.brandmeister.network/servicedesk/customer/portal/3/create/96) (if you click the link it will take you to the form to fill out) and provide your 6-Digit Repeater ID, the master server you are connected to and your 7-digit ID and Call Sign. \
\
Please be the owner or trustee of the assigned Repeater ID/Call Sign when sending the request and of course have a BrandMeister Account (if you don't have an account please see [Register for an account](/dashboard/register-for-an-account#register-for-an-account)). We will verify the information in the FCC Database and will only provide sysop rights to the repeater owner/trustee. Once the owner/trustee is assigned they may in turn assign other sysops to the repeater as they desire.&#x20;

22.) Once you have been provided Sysop Rights to the repeater you may reference the [Sysop Dashboard ](/repeaters/sysop-dashboard)guide for features and other information.&#x20;

There are over 45 Master Servers Available to connect to around the world. The USA Maintains three Master Servers distributed through out the country.&#x20;

5. Open the **Zone/Channel Assignment section** and then click the zone folder. Click on the channel to be used and verify the following configuration is set at minimum. Other options are up to you on how you are configurating your repeater:<br>
   1. **IP Site Connect (Repeater):**           Set to Slot 1 & Slot 2
   2. **Repeater RSSI Threshold:**             Set to -100 or higher<br>

6. Write the code plug to your repeater and your repeater should now connect to the master server of choice.&#x20;

1. Enter your RX and TX Frequency.&#x20;

### Verify Connection and Sysop Permissions

1. Verify connection by going to the BrandMeister website at <http://brandmeister.network> and click on repeaters and search for your repeater by the 6-digit Radio ID or by the Callsign of the Repeater.<br>
2. Once all steps are satisfied above you can request for sysop rights to be assigned in the BrandMeister Sysop Dashboard by submitting a ticket by visiting [http://support.brandmeister.network](https://support.brandmeister.network/servicedesk/customer/portal/3/create/96) (if you click the link it will take you to the form to fill out) and provide your 6-Digit Repeater ID, the master server you are connected to and your 7-digit ID and Call Sign. \
   \
   Please be the owner or trustee of the assigned Repeater ID/Call Sign when sending the request and of course have a BrandMeister Account (if you don't have an account please see [Register for an account](/dashboard/register-for-an-account#register-for-an-account)). We will verify the information in the FCC Database and will only provide sysop rights to the repeater owner/trustee. Once the owner/trustee is assigned they may in turn assign other sysops to the repeater as they desire. <br>
3. Once you have been provided Sysop Rights to the repeater you may reference the [Sysop Dashboard ](/repeaters/sysop-dashboard)guide for features and other information.&#x20;

### Setup your Pi-Star Configuration - Quick Version.

1.) Access the Pi-Star Dashboard - <http://pi-star.local> or IP

2.) Click on Configuration Tab (top right)

3.) Enter Password (Default is all lowercase:   username: pi-star | password: raspberry)

4.) Under Control Software Section:

* Controller Software:   select MMDVMHost
* Controller Mode:         select Duplex Repeater.&#x20;
* Click **Apply Changes**. (The modem will reset after you click Apply Changes each time and this is normal).

5.) Under MMDVMHost Configuration:

* DMR Mode:                  enable "DMR Mode" by click the toggle button.&#x20;
* Click **Apply Changes.**&#x20;

6.) Under General Configuration:

* Node Callsign:               enter Repeater Call Sign&#x20;
* CCS7/DMRI ID:              enter your Repeater DMR ID - 6 Digit ID
* Radio Frequency RX:    Enter Repeater Receive Frequency
* Radio Frequency TX:     Enter Repeater Transmit Frequency
* Radio/Modem Type:     Choose your modem
* Node Type:                     Select Public, unless you want to keep it as a private node/repeater.
* System Time Zone:       Select System Time Zone for your location.&#x20;
* Click **Apply Changes.**&#x20;

7.) Under DMR Configuration:

* DMR Master:                 Select Preferred Master Server (3102, 3103, 3104, etc).
* Hotspot Security:         Enter the Device Password. See Setting Repeater/Device Password.
* DMR ESSID:                   ESSID is not supported for Repeaters using 6-digit Radio IDs.
* DMR Color Code:          Select Color Code
* Click **Apply Changes.**

8.) Click on Dashboard on the top menu. This will take you to the main dashboard and notice on the left side under Network Status, DMR Net should be lit green if all went well.&#x20;

# Sysop Dashboard

Sysop Access allows for administration of the repeater such as static talk group assignments, description, scheduler and other features available to repeater sysops.

The dashboard is designed for repeater sysops connecting to BrandMeister a method to make configuration settings and manage connections as needed.&#x20;

**SYSOP Access:** RadioID.net now sends repeater IDs to BrandMeister every 5 to 10  minutes. This means once you register for a Repeater ID on RadioID.net it will appear under the My Devices section on the dashboard and assigns sysop rights to the listed trustee. Please make sure on RadioID.net to set the Repeater Status to On-Air/Visible for the RepeaterID on RadioID, otherwise it won't update to BrandMeister. This only works for those who have a registered BrandMeister Account. If you dont have one please create one by going to [Register for an Account](/dashboard/register-for-an-account).

# Device Password

MMDVM Based Repeaters now require device passwords to be set.

Motorola Based Repeaters Authentication Keys are a hex value (0-9,A-F) and must be 16 characters or less in length. (As of Jan 1, 2022 we are asking all Motorola Repeaters to set their authentication key and device password).&#x20;

1.) Go to "My Devices" in the BrandMeister Dashboard/Selfcare and select the repeater (repeater ID link) you wish to set the password.

2.) Scroll down to the bottom and located "Device Password"

3.) Enter a HEX Value password. It should be less than 40 characters and a HEX value. Remember this password as you will need to enter this into your repeater password section.

4.) When you are done **click save password**. The password will not display in the field after saving and won't be able to see it after you click save. You may at any time return and set a new password if you forgot it.

5.) Now enter the password into your repeater under the Authentication Key under General -> Link Establishment section in the CPS.

6.) Save the code plug and then load it into your repeater.&#x20;

6.) If all went well your repeater should now connect.&#x20;

MDVM Based Repeaters are required to set their passwords related to each of the Repeater IDs (6-digits only).

# General Settings

The General settings allow sysops to add/update the general information about the repeater.

### Priority Message

The priority message is available and will display on the repeater profile page across the top when used. This may be used to notify users or any outages, alerts and general information and is shown in the blue box as shown below when used/saved. This is limited to 100 Characters.&#x20;

### Description

The Description field allows for general information regarding the repeater. This is shown on the repeater profile under the description section. HTML Tags are supported to help with formatting of text information as shown below with the strong tag.

### Other Information (Website, Location, Lat/Log, Height, Power, Gain)

The other information including the **Website, Location, Latitude, Longitude and Height** are available to edit for Motorola and Hytera Repeaters.&#x20;

MMDVM Repeaters will need to edit this information in their configuration in the Pi-Star or MMDVMHost software as it is provided when the repeater connects to the master server.&#x20;

Power and Gain can be edited for both Motorola/Hytera and MMDVM Repeaters.&#x20;

The information is displayed on the repeater profile page on the left side of the page.&#x20;


# Static Talk Groups

Allows sysops to add and remove static talk groups for the repeater.

Static talk groups allow for specific talk groups to be set static/active meaning any traffic which becomes available will be sent to the repeater. Be careful of not adding to many static talk group for your users as they might at time cause some busy talk groups to monopolize the repeater/timeslot with traffic. A good general number is 3 or less static talk groups. Some users will dedicate Timeslot 2 to only 1 or 2 statics and might place most of other statics on Timeslot 1.

## Add a Static Talk Group

1.) In the text box with in the Static Talk groups box (Timeslot 1 or Timeslot 2) enter the talk group ID as the example shows below.\ <br>

2.) Click the first button (pointing right) to add the talk group to set as static.

3.) Repeat the steps for the number of talk groups you wish to add in the timeslot 1 or timeslot 2 sections.

## Remove Static Talk Group

1.) in the list box of the respective Timeslot in the Static Talk Group section select the talk group you wish to remove.

2.) Click the second button (pointing to the left) to remove the selected talk group (notice the grey when selecting a talk group to remove as this indicates the talk group selected).

3.) Repeat the steps above for any other talk groups you wish to remove from being static.&#x20;


# Scheduled Talk Groups


# Clusters

Clusters provide repeater owners a method to link common repeaters on the same master server together allowing for priority traffic and a local Talk group for users to use.

When a cluster is used, users may only access the cluster by using the repeater which is part of the cluster. The general talk group used is Talk Group ID 2. Further no outside access is enabled as the default configuration, meaning hotspot users will not be able to access it directly from a talk group ID.  Clusters also don't forward traffic to other master servers which means it only available at the master server it originates from.&#x20;

## Add Repeater to Cluster

1.) Click on the "Add Cluster" button in the Clusters section in the Sysop Dashboard.

2.) The following dialog box will appear. &#x20;

3.) In the cluster drop down select the Cluster you wish to join. If a cluster is not available or needs to be created see [Create a New Cluster.](/repeaters/sysop-dashboard/clusters#create-a-new-cluster)

4.) Choose the Timeslot where you wish to have the cluster to be assigned to.&#x20;

5.) Click Add cluster. Repeater this for each repeater you wish to join to the cluster.&#x20;

6.) Users will access the cluster on the timeslot chosen and using Talkgroup ID 2 or the ID which is assigned to it. Note in the parenthesis the number as this indicates the Talk group ID.&#x20;

## Create a New Cluster

1.) If you need a cluster to be created and listed please open a support ticket at <http://support.brandmeister.network>

2.) Provide your radio ID and call, and the name of the cluster. All clusters will be setup to operate on Talk Group ID 2.

3.) Once the cluster is created  you may follow the [Add Repeater to Cluster](/repeaters/sysop-dashboard/clusters#add-repeater-to-cluster).&#x20;

## Remove Repeater from Cluster

1.) Click on the cluster entry you wish to remove from the repeater.

2.) Click Remove button to remove the repeater from the cluster.&#x20;


# Actions

Under the Actions sections allows sysops to perform some basic actions for the repeater and their connection.

## Get IP Address

This provides for an easy way to see the IP Address your repeater is using / connecting to the BrandMeister Server. This may also provide a verification your repeater is connecting properly.&#x20;

## Drop Call on Slot 1 or Slot 2

This allows the sysop to drop a call on the select timeslot due to possible locked keyup by the user or for other reasons.

## Drop Dynamic Group on Slot 1 or Slot 2

This allows the sysop to drop all dynamic calls activated by users on the repeater. This will drop only dynamic talk groups and will not affect the statics if there are any assigned to the timeslot.&#x20;

## Reset Repeater Connection

This allows the sysop to reset the connection of the repeater. This could help to resolve a stale IP address or for other reasons. This will trigger the repeater to essentially login in to the master server.  Typically the repeater will reconnect within seconds.&#x20;

# Sysops

Allows owners/trustees to assign other sysops to their repeater sysop dashboard in BrandMeister.

### Add additional Sysop Users

1.) Under the Sysops section as shown above, click on the "+ Add a sysop to" button at the top right in the sysop section.

2.) a dialog box will appear as shown below. Type in the call sign of the user to add. NOTE: the user to add must have a BrandMeister Account. See [Register for an Account](/dashboard/register-for-an-account#register-for-an-account).&#x20;

3.) Select the Roles you wish the user to be assigned. \
&#x20;     **Read Settings:** Only allows the user to read all settings\
&#x20;     **Write Settings:**  Allows the user to change any information.\
&#x20;     **Manage Sysops:** Allows the user to assign or remove other sysops.

4.) Click Add Sysop. The user now will see the repeater in their dashboard under "My Repeaters" on the left navigation. &#x20;

### Remove Sysop

1.) Click on the "Delete" button next to the person you wish to remove.&#x20;

### Not seeing repeater in dashboard or My Repeater.

Here are some typical reasons not initially seeing your sysop rights to a repeater.

* You may need to log out and log back in for the profile to update with your new assigned rights.
* You may need to refresh your browser or cache for it to show.
* You have not been provided with the sysop rights as of yet and will need to request access if not done so already by the repeater owner/trustee or is till in progress being added by the BM Admin Team.&#x20;


# Frequency Details

The frequency and color code information displayed on the repeater profile.

Frequency information is provided from the Repeater itself and is not configurable via the Sysop Dashboard. If you see a wrong frequency for your repeater you will need to review the configuration in your CPS or device. You may turn off / disconnect  your repeater from the master server for a period of 1 to 2 minutes and then connect again to allow the master server to update information as this may be cached when you last connected.&#x20;

# Set On Air Status at RadioID

How to set your repeater ID to On Air Status.

### Overview

BrandMeister USA Servers now check Radio IDs and Repeater Calls signs when repeaters (6-digit systems) connect to any of the master servers. This means you will need to make sure your Radio ID is set to On Air and also the call sign used matches the Repeater Call Sign entered into Radio Alias or Call Sign.

### Set On Air Status on RadioID.net

1.) Navigation to <https://radioid.net> and log in.

2.) Click on the Repeaters Link on the left Menu Navigation.

3.) Click on the Radio ID which needs to be set to On Air Status. (Example of what you might see)

4.) Under the Repeater Status select On-Air/Visible.

5.) Click the save button at the bottom of the page.

6.) Allow up to 10 minutes after you click save for the information to be sent to BrandMeister. Once it is synced you will now see the repeater in your My Repeaters Menu if you are the trustee of the repeater. (The Trustee is set at RadioID as well and is typically the person who requested the Radio ID for the repeater).&#x20;


# Repeater Connection Issues

Common Connection issues checklist.

### **Common things to look for when seeing errors or not able to connect to a Master Server.**

* [ ] Make sure you are not using Master 3101 - This is being decommission, choose any other USA Master Server.<br>
* [ ] Verify your Repeater Call Sign is listed first followed by any details such as site name or location. Example   W1AW - 1 or W1AW/R or W1AW ARRL HQ.<br>
* [ ] Verify your Repeater Call Sign and 6-Digit ID is the same as registered with RadioID.net. You may change the call sign at RadioID if not correct or on the Repeater in the Call Sign/Radio Alias fields to match. <br>
* [ ] MMDVM Repeaters must now set a device password in the Sysop Dashboard, see [Device Password](/repeaters/sysop-dashboard/device-password). This password is then entered into your Repeater either as hotspot security in pi-star or password in MMDVMHost.&#x20;


# Listen to a Talk Group

Steps on how to listen to a talk group via the BrandMeister Last Heard Dashboard

1. Go to <https://brandmeister.network>
2. Click on the "Last Heard" link on the left menu.
3. Click the Pause Button to freeze the last heard (Optional, this helps so the page does not keep scrolling in order to allow you to click on the live icon)
4. Click on the Audio icon next to the talk group in the destination column you wish to listen to.
5. This will open a new screen to the hose.brandmeister.network site.
6. Notice in the player at top right it now has the talk group listed and should begin to hear conversations on the selected talk group.

# Talk Group Last Heard

### Step by Step

1. Go to <https://brandmeister.network>
2. Click on "Last Heard" link on the left menu.
3. Click the "+" link at the top right in the search section.
4. Click "Add Rule" button.
5. In the drop down select "Destination ID"
6. Enter the Talk Group ID. (you will need to enter the TG ID, there is no dropdown to select from).
7. Click the "Search" button.
8. The last heard for the specific group will now start to display.&#x20;
9. Enjoy!


# Register for an Account

By registering for an account you will be able to manage the many features BrandMeister provides to users of the system including, HotSpot Security, APRS / Alias setting, manage multiple IDs, set hotspot static talk groups, schedules and much more. This also allows for repeater admins to configure statics and repeater information.&#x20;

### Register for an account

**Before you can register you must have a Radio ID** (DMR ID) issued by <http://RadioID.net>. If you don't have one please visit <http://RadioID.net> to register for a Radio ID. Once you have registered, licensed has been verified and ID issued, please allow up to 2-5 minutes for the IDs to be synced to BrandMeister.&#x20;

By using the same email used when registering with RadioID, the BrandMeister Registration process will be speed up as we sync information from RadioID.&#x20;

1.)  In your browser go to the BrandMeister Dashboard at <http://brandmeister.network>

2.) Click on the "Register" link at the top right of the page

3.) Under General Account Details, Enter your Call sign, enter your email account (by using the same email address used with RadioID will speed up the process) and choose "Personal User Account". After you completed this section scroll to the next section.

4.) Under the Security Section type in your password and confirm it. For the Anti Spam question enter in the numerical value only for what is the common wavelength used for amateur radio operations in the UHF Band. (hint ham uses the 420-450 range so the answer is 70).

5.) Click on the "I'm not a robot" and then "Register!" button (the Robot might be a little tricky but please answer it as requested to help protect our systems from SPAM Bots).

6.) You will now receive an email confirmation to your email address you registered with. Make sure you check your spam box or other quarantine filters as the email might get sent to those areas of your email systems. **If you don't receive a confirmation email within the next 15 to 30 minutes** please contact the support team by submitting a [help desk ticket](https://support.brandmeister.network/servicedesk/customer/user/login?destination=portals) or visit our [USA telegram channel](https://t.me/joinchat/RBg0DOzJ77TwMFGA). For the support site you will be asked to of course create another account which is specific for the Support System (you wont need to go through a confirmation process for the support system).&#x20;

7.) Once you confirm the email address you should see the following message after clicking the link in the email confirmation email. \*\* Take Note of the message, a BrandMeister Account Team member next review your account and then will activate it. If you don't hear back after 48 hours again open a [support ticket](https://support.brandmeister.network/servicedesk/customer/user/login?destination=portals) or visit our [USA Telegram Channel](https://t.me/joinchat/RBg0DOzJ77TwMFGA). Remember this is a volunteer team, please be patient as it may take time for someone to review and approve the account due and can be longer than the 48 hours to holidays and or the number of accounts being reviewed.&#x20;

8.) After the account has been reviewed/approved you may log into your account.


# Device Logs

Displays the logs from devices (hotspots, repeaters) connecting to any of the BrandMeister Servers within the last 24 hours. The logs shown are for any activities related to authentication, verification, wrong configuration and verified statues. The logs will show the last 24 hours. No logs indicate no connection attempts, issues and or is beyond the 24 hours.&#x20;

### Access Device Logs

The Device Logs is located on the left menu under the My Devices as a seperate linked labled "Device Logs"

The logs will display for any devices you may have including Hotspots and Repeaters where you are either the trustee and or Sysop of a repeater which has Read Status uneabled for the user of the repeater.&#x20;

### Frequently Asked Questions

If no logs appear this could be due to one of the following reasons:

* The master server is seeing no connection attempts. Check your device configuration.
* It has been more than 24 hours since the device connected. Logs are only displayed for activity within the last 24 hours.
* Or simply means no issues are reported.

This error means your Radio ID and Your Call Sign (Radio Alias) which was set on your device is not matching with what you have registered with Radio ID. Check your Radio ID and Call sign.

# HotSpot Security

All MMDVM or Homebrew (hotspots) devices connecting to BrandMeister USA must have a password set in the selfcare. Hotspot security helps to protect users from others connecting with your registered ID.

### How to set your Hotspot Security

**1.)** [Login ](https://brandmeister.network/?page=login)to your BrandMeister Selfcare (if you don't have an acount you will need to register, [click here](/dashboard/register-for-an-account) for how to register)

**2.)** On the top right, click on your callsign.

**4.)** Click on the Radio ID tab of the ID you will be using and then at the bottom of the page, locate the "Hotspot Security" section.

**5.)** Enter your personalized hotspot password and click "Save". (note, the password box will display an empty value after clicking save. This is normal function of the system. If you forget your password you can retype it here to set it).

Passwords: May be 20 characters or less and should not include special characters. Also be aware if you do copy and paste passwords you may also copy extra characters such as a space. Would recommend if possibly to manually type your passwords both in the selfcare and hotspots.&#x20;

# Remove IDs under My Hotspots

### IDs will removed automatically

The ID's which are not active under My Hotspots under your Self Care Portal will be removed over time, typically after 30 days or more of no activity. No action is needed by the user.

Having multiple radio IDs (aliases, ESSIDs) will not affect your connections.&#x20;

# Callsign Change

If you recently changed your call sign you will need to perform the following steps to change your callsign in the two systems. This will allow you to keep your original Radio IDs.

1.) **Visit <http://RadioID.net>** and click on the Support Link on the top menu. Fill out the information and follow what is required. Use your old call sign in the call sign box, select "General Support" in the category dropdown and type in "Call Sign Change" in the Issue Texbox, finally type in your new call sign

2.) After your confirmation of call sign change please **allow for up to 1 to 2 minutes for the information to be refreshed and synced into BrandMeister**.&#x20;

3.) Next, you will next need to **create a new selfcare account with the new call sign**. See [Register for an Account on BrandMeister](/dashboard/register-for-an-account) to create an account. **Please take note** in the linked article there will be an email sent for confirmation and once you following the steps to confirm your email your request is then  placed in the queue to be reviewed and approved by the Team. If you did not receive a confirmation email with in 10 to 15 minutes please reach out to us via our support channels.&#x20;

4.) Once you have completed all the steps you are now able to login and use your account on BrandMeister with the new call sign.&#x20;

5.) Your old call sign will be removed from the system within the next 2 to 3 weeks.&#x20;


# Radio ID Not Updating BM

The reason your ID / information has not updated in the BrandMeister database is likely to have one of the 11xxxxx DMR numbers issued by <http://RadioID.net> in the wrong MCC. The numbers were allowed to continue to work but BrandMeister will no longer import or update them.&#x20;

You need to go to your Radio ID account and request a replacement ID. There is a button to do that and it will issue you a 31xxxxx number. Once it is updated BM will import the ID and callsign information.

### What is a talk group?

A *DMR Talk group* is a means to digitally organize a group of radio traffic by assigning a virtual channel known as a talk group ID. Talk groups can be organized into regional such as cities, counties, states, countries, etc. and also by topics or special interest groups such as radio clubs.&#x20;

For example Talk Group ID 91 is the world wide talk group and encourages users from around the world to meet up and communicate with each other.&#x20;

### Static

A *static talk group* is set by either the repeater owner/trustee or hotspot user on a particular timeslot and is set to permanently allow traffic to be sent. This means all traffic will pass through the repeater/hotspot to the end user radio when there is active traffic or communications.

For example, if a repeater owner sets the talk Group to 3100 USA Local on timeslot 1 on their repeater to static it will send traffic to all to hear on that repeater. &#x20;

### Dynamic (Repeaters & Duplex Hotspots)&#x20;

A *dynamic talk group,* or sometimes referred to PTT of a talk group, is a temporary activation of a particular talk group by the end user either being through a repeater or hotspot device.&#x20;

On BrandMeister this dynamic talk group will stay active for a period of 15 minutes on USA Master server (sometimes referred to on-demand timers), this will depend on the master server if not in the USA, and will deactivate or timeout if no local traffic (no local user keying up the repeater) is heard during this time.&#x20;

Please be mindful when using a DMR Repeater to activate a dynamic talk group to do it on the correct timeslot. Generally timeslot 1 is used for this purpose. Please consult the repeater owner or group on their preferred timeslot for dynamic talk group activations.&#x20;

### Auto-static (Simplex Hotspots only)

A auto-static is for hotspots only and sets the hotspot to stay on the current active talk group which was activated by keying up the radio through the hotspot by the user. This means this talk group will stay active until the user on the hotspot keys up another talk group and of which will set the new talkgroup as the new auto-static.&#x20;


# Create a Talk Group

Talk groups are used to allow for users to communicate in a virtual like room. Talk groups generally are a 1 to 7 digit ID which are programmed in radios as Group Call.

## Overview

Talk groups on BrandMeister follow the MCC - Mobile Country Code. For example, USA Talk Groups begin with a 3. Talk groups which start with a 9 are assigned as Global Talk groups. More info about MCC can be found at | [Wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_country_code) | [ITU](https://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-E.212)

Talk groups typically are labeled as topics or activities (such as POTA, YOTA, etc.), regional (such as state, city, worldwide, etc.), or user's groups (such as clubs, or users of a product or open-source project). Manufacture/Vendor specific are not allowed and will not be created.&#x20;

## 5-Digit Talk groups

## Use Your 7-Digit Radio ID

Users may use their RadioID.net issued radio ID as a talk group. Please only use your registered ID and don't pick one that you think is empty. (If your group has a club call you may also register for a 7-digit ID and use that as a talk group).&#x20;

#### Steps to begin using your ID as a Talk Group:

1. Program your radio by adding the 7-Digit Radio ID as a Group Call using the CPS Program.
2. Label it as you see fit in the CPS as this will show on your radio Display.
3. Provide the 7-Digit to others to program into their respective radios.&#x20;
4. Finally key up and test it out.

## Use Your Repeater 6-Digit Radio ID

Repeater Owners may use their 6-Digit Radio ID which is used for the repeater ID as a talk group. Please only use your registered 6-digit Repeater ID and don't pick one that you think is empty. You are able to use the 6-digit ID for both the ID for the repeater and as a talk group.&#x20;

#### Steps to begin using your ID as a Talk Group:

1. Program your radio by adding the 6-Digit Radio ID as a Group Call using the CPS Program.
2. Label it as you see fit in the CPS as this will show on your radio Display.
3. Provide or post the 6-Digit to others to program into their respective radios.&#x20;
4. Finally key up and test it out.


# Bridging to BrandMeister

Bridging is defined as connecting a talk group to another server which allows user to connect to. BrandMeister supports OpenBridge, XLX, YSF, NXDN Reflectors and connection to WiresX nodes.

## General Information

Even though BrandMeister supports the ability to bridge to reflectors and servers **each Master Server Admin has discretion of reviewing and approving bridge connections**. Please be respectful and patient when requesting a bridge connection.&#x20;

### USA Master Server Bridging Rules

* **Do not re-bridge talk group**(s) provided to your bridge. Any bridge connection which shows re-bridging to another server(s) will be disconnected without notice.
* **No Peer Bridging.** Peer Bridging is defined as the use of either the MMDVM or DM protocols by using a hotspot or other software which uses MMDVM or DM protocol to bridge reflectors or servers. Please request the appropriate bridging protocol (OpenBridge, XLX Interlink, etc.) when wishing to bridge talk groups to BrandMeister. &#x20;
* **Review of Bridge and/or Connection status** which do not show traffic of more than 60 days or is not showing connected may be disconnected / removed without notice. Please monitor your servers/reflectors to ensure they are online and operating properly.&#x20;
* **New Bridges** will only be provided up to 5 Talk groups which are hosted by BrandMeister (see below on what can be provided)

### What can or cannot be Bridged

* **TAC 310-312** may be provided to CBridges Only and at the discretion of the Master Server Team.
* **TAC 313-319** are not allowed to be bridged.  The talk groups are only available to users who connect a using a device directly to BrandMeister (Repeaters and Hotspots).&#x20;
* **3100 USA Nationwide TG** - may be provided to CBridges Only and at the discretion of the Master Server Team. This is a **DMR Only Channel,** and no other modes are permitted.&#x20;
* **91x Global** talk groups may be provided to CBridges Only and at the discretion of the Master Server Team.
* **Statewide Talk Groups (4-digit)** will only be provided if the source is not being provided by another server. Please do your homework to find out if a Statewide talk group is originating from another source. You may start by looking at the USA Wiki where state talk groups are listed and last known provider of the Statewide talk group.  This at the discretion of the Master Server Team.&#x20;
* **5 Digit, 6 Digit and 7 Digit Talk** Groups may be provided if you are part of the group, it is your personal Radio ID or Repeater ID or received permission of the originator of the talk group. Please do your homework to discover the originator of the talk group and provide permission of being able to bridge. This at the discretion of the Master Server Team.&#x20;
* **Outside of USA MCC (31x)** will may be provided if you receive permission of the Admin Team of the MCC of the requested Talk Group.
* **Bridging to other networks** will not be provided any new bridges to any other networks (DMR+, FreeStar,FreeDMR, etc, etc).&#x20;
* **This is a Digital Network** - Remember this is a digital network and primarily is a DMR network with some cross mode connections to C4FM (System Fusion), Dstar (XLX), etc. Analog bridges are not supported and we will not provide a bridge to any analog based server/network other than what is supported directly from Brandmeister (Hose for example).&#x20;

* XLX Server (must have vocoders installed, we wont provide)

# OpenBridge

OpenBridge is an open protocol to link DMR servers.

OpenBridge is very simple protocol that allows to send call streams between servers. Protocol is based on MMDVM protocol and supports DMRD packets only.&#x20;

### USA Bridging Policy

Bridges are not guaranteed to be provided and the BM Admin Teams may deny requests for any reason. Bridge request must be able to show benefit to the BrandMeister Community. Users are encouraged to connect devices directly to a BrandMeister server as most features users enjoy today are only available to direct connetions and are not provided to any of the bridge protocols.&#x20;

#### HBLink, DVSwitch, MMDVM Bridge, etc

Requests will only be fulfilled for users wishing to link their personal 7-digit Radio ID and 6-digit IDs which belong to themselves and or the group affiliated with.&#x20;

See below of the questions which must be answered in full for review and consideration. Failure to answer all the questions will be denied the request.&#x20;

* Why are the talk groups needed? Please provide an answer for each talk group being requested.
* Have you performed the research and ask the groups of the originating host if you are able to have them provided to you from BrandMeister? Please provide an answer for each Talk group being requested.
* How does this Benefit the BrandMeister Network/Community?
* What is the server you are requesting the talk groups to bridge to? (DVSwitch, MMDVM\_Bridge, HBlink, etc).
* How many repeaters and hotspots will be connected to the server this bridge is being connected to?
* Are you aware that you are responsible for the behavior of your users when devices/hotspots connect to your server and BrandMeister has the right to disable the full connection (all TGs, Bridge Connection) if and when an issue arises and has not been addressed in a timely manner?&#x20;
* Are you aware that you are responsible for the upkeep of your server and is not the responsibility of the BrandMiester team to alert you to issues or down connections? (You may of course subscribe to the Groups id, Telegram and Facebook for Master Server changes/outages).&#x20;
* Are you aware no re-bridging of any sorts is not permitted when being provided the talk groups? If found the Admin Team may disconnect either the TG and or all connections for violation of this general policy of re-bridging?

### How to request a bridge

1. Open a ticket via our support system at <http://support.brandmeister.network><br>
2. Make sure to answer the questions above and place them in the ticket if requesting talk groups other than your 7-digit or 6-digit ID which belongs or assigned to you or your group.<br>
3. Please allow time for the Admin teams to review and provide a response.&#x20;

## Establishing a connection with BrandMeister

#### Open a Ticket and request a Wires-X Connection and provide the following:

* [ ] Public IP Address of the HRI-200 Device. You may also provide a Domain Name (FQDN).
* [ ] Provide the Room Number.
* [ ] Your Call Sign or Call Sign of the Wires-X Node.
* [ ] Choice of Master Server (USA: 3103 or 3104).
* [ ] Talk Group to link the Wires-X Room to. (Talk group must be yours or your groups, and or have permission to use a repeater ID as a talk group. You may use your personal 7-digit ID as a talk group). Please don't ask for a new talk group. We are not providing any and will refer you to this same message.

NOTE: We will not link Wires-X nodes to TG 3100, Statewide Talk groups or TAC channels (310-319) or global talk groups.

#### &#x20;Check the following items have been completed/working on your side.

* [ ] Ports are open and configured on your network (UDP: 46100, 46110, 46112, 46114, 46120 and 46122).
* [ ] Software installed and running along with any hardware configurations.
* [ ] We don't provide support on configuring/installing of the Wires-X Software or hardware configurations.

## What to expect when connection is established.&#x20;

You will see a new Node either labeled as BM3103-ND or BM3104-ND.

Traffic will be sent between BrandMeister and the Wires-X Node when there is activity.

If the node goes offline or there are network disruptions, BrandMeister will continually try to establish the connection. There are no limits or connection retries and will continue until successful.&#x20;

If you are reviewing the logs of the Wires-X node you will notice multiple connects and reconnects. This is normal and should generally be seen every 90 to 120 seconds. Again, this is normal.&#x20;

### Troubleshooting of Connection Loss

If the connection between the BrandMeister Server and your Wires-X suddenly disconnects, please check the following:

* [ ] Wait to see if connection is restored (typically within 1 to 2 minutes).&#x20;
* [ ] Review the Port Permits in your Router/Firewall.
* [ ] Check if IP Address has changed with your ISP (Use a website like - <https://whatismyipaddress.com/>) to verify it has not changed. If the IP has changed you will need to provide this to BrandMeister to update the configurations.
* [ ] If you provided the BrandMeister a domain name pointing to your device, ensure the IP Address did not change or if changed wait for the refresh of the IP to take place (can take 5 minutes to 1 hour and some cases multiple days depending on the service used).
* [ ] Reboot network devices on your network. (Routers, Switches, Hubs, Firewalls, etc.).
* [ ] Verify with ISP the IP Address / Ports of the Master Server is not being blocked.
